NVIDIA Opens Vera Rubin Rack Designs as Meta Adopts Spectrum-6, Standardizing 250 kW and 100,000-GPU AI Factories

At OCP 2026, NVIDIA opened Vera Rubin MGX 1.2 rack and compute-tray designs featuring racks up to 250 kW, a 5,000A busbar and standardized liquid-cooling interfaces. Meta is adopting 102.4Tb/s Spectrum-6 switches for AI factories of more than 100,000 GPUs, while Google will support Falcon Transport on future ConnectX-10 and BlueField products. The move extends NVIDIA from a GPU supplier into standards spanning power, cooling, networking and operating software. Contract values, equipment volumes, revenue and CAPEX changes were not disclosed.

A. Key facts

On October 12, 2026, NVIDIA contributed Vera Rubin rack and compute-tray designs to OCP through the open MGX architecture. MGX 1.2 includes blind-mate liquid cooling, interoperable rack-scale interconnects, a 5,000A busbar, and standardized power and cooling interfaces, supporting racks up to 250 kW.

Meta is adopting NVIDIA Spectrum-6 102.4Tb/s Ethernet switches for Vera Rubin AI factories. The architecture uses 200G-per-lane Spectrum-X Multiplane with ConnectX-9 SuperNICs across up to eight independent network planes to support environments of more than 100,000 GPUs.

Google will add Falcon Transport support to future ConnectX-10 SuperNICs and BlueField DPUs. Google, Meta, Microsoft and NVIDIA also published an OCP Grid Resilience specification requiring recovery to near-full load in under two seconds after grid disturbances. NVIDIA and Cisco announced a 400G-per-lane USFP optical-module standard.

B. Business significance · InveDeck interpretation

NVIDIA is seeking to make not only Vera Rubin performance but also rack power, cooling, Ethernet networking, grid behavior and cluster operations into industry standards. This extends platform lock-in from GPU share toward the full data-center design.

Meta's Spectrum-6 adoption is an official hyperscale reference for NVIDIA Ethernet in a next-generation environment exceeding 100,000 GPUs. It strengthens NVIDIA's direct challenge to Broadcom and others in open Ethernet, not only InfiniBand.

Contributing designs to OCP permits wider partner participation, but it can also accelerate ecosystem growth by placing MGX, Spectrum-X, ConnectX, BlueField and DSX at the center of reference designs.

C. Quantifiable impact

The disclosed design ceiling is 250 kW per rack, requiring much higher power and liquid-cooling density than conventional data-center racks. This is a design limit, not Meta's actual average rack power or total MW.

Spectrum-6 provides 102.4Tb/s switching and 200G per lane. Multiplane supports up to eight independent planes and targets clusters above 100,000 GPUs. Meta disclosed no actual GPU count, switch count, deployment timing or contract value.

USFP targets 400G per lane, 16 full-duplex lanes with a path to 32 lanes, four times the bandwidth density of traditional 200G-per-lane pluggables and roughly 1.3 times better power efficiency. Independent validation and production costs were not disclosed.

Revenue, CAPEX, OCF, FCF and RPO impacts for NVIDIA, Meta, Alphabet and Microsoft therefore cannot be calculated.

D. Link to earnings and expectations

NVIDIA reported Q2 FY2027 revenue of USD 96.2 billion and Data Center revenue of USD 89.0 billion. The announcement clarifies the next product and networking architecture behind data-center growth, but it is not an earnings or guidance change.

Meta is already executing large AI-infrastructure investment. Spectrum-6 adoption identifies part of the network architecture, but the absence of equipment volumes and spending prevents revision of Meta CAPEX estimates.

Alphabet and Microsoft are officially involved in Falcon interoperability and grid-resilience standards, respectively. This does not indicate Vera Rubin GPU purchase volumes or new contracts.

E. Industry and supply chain · InveDeck interpretation

Potential direct beneficiaries include Spectrum-6, ConnectX and BlueField, optical transceivers and connectors, 5,000A busbars, 800VDC power conversion, liquid cooling and rack integration. The stack may raise NVIDIA networking mix and value per GPU deployment.

Broadcom and AMD face stronger competition in Ethernet switching, NICs and open rack standards. OCP standardization may nevertheless increase multi-vendor component opportunities through interoperability.

Racks at 250 kW and clusters above 100,000 GPUs increase transformer, distribution, cooling and optical-network demand, but undisclosed project volumes prevent supplier revenue quantification.

F. What to watch next

  • Meta's Spectrum-6 and ConnectX-9 volumes, deployment timing and actual GPU scale
  • Customer rack counts, MW and commissioning schedules for Vera Rubin MGX 1.2 systems
  • Real operating power and cooling efficiency of 250 kW racks and manufacturability of the 5,000A busbar
  • USFP 400G-per-lane production timing, independent efficiency validation and supplier adoption
  • NVIDIA networking revenue and margins, Broadcom and AMD share, and changes in Meta CAPEX
