02 Earnings sustainability · From operating income to net income

The default earnings basis is IFRS. Company non-IFRS operating income adjusts for stock-based compensation and investment- and acquisition-related effects, among other items, and is not directly mixed with the table's IFRS operating income.

Advertising growth was mainly driven by more impressions and better pricing through AI targeting, while games growth reflected new titles and established long-running games.

Operating income
8.880 B$
Net non-operating income/loss
1.561 B$
Income tax expense
−1.367 B$
Consolidated net income
9.074 B$

Net income of 8.821 B$ in the existing quarterly data is attributable to the parent/shareholders. Its scope differs from consolidated net income used in the cash flow reconciliation.

03 Cash flow quality · Net income → OCF → FCF

Company FCF of approximately 8.17 B$ deducts content and lease payments as well as cash CapEx. Individual IR table items are rounded in the original disclosures, so their sum may differ slightly from the reported total.

Accrual-based CapEx was approximately 1.82 B$, versus cash CapEx payments of approximately 2.79 B$. The two are not treated as the same value because expense or asset recognition and cash settlement occur at different times.

Operating cash flow

Company-defined cash CapEx

Company-defined FCF
8.174 B$

¹ Total net adjustments calculated as OCF minus net income. This is not a single disclosed line item; it combines non-cash items, working capital, classification differences and other adjustments.

² Company-disclosed FCF and cash CapEx are broadly rounded in the original disclosure and are shown to approximately two decimal places in B$ in the text. The third decimal place in the reconciliation above is a calculation result, not the precision of the original disclosure.

FCF versus the previous quarter · approx. 5.94 → approx. 8.17 B$, a 2.23 B$ improvement.

04 Financial capacity · Net debt and payment obligations

Previous-quarter net cash · 2025-06-30

−5.910 B$

Cash and liquid assets 49.065 / Borrowings 54.974 B$

Current-quarter net cash · 2025-09-30

−0.674 B$

Cash and liquid assets 54.239 / Borrowings 54.913 B$

Net debt improved by 5.236 B$ from the previous quarter. The carrying amount of current borrowings is 8.828 B$. This may differ from the principal maturity schedule.

Company net cash uses a total-cash definition that includes non-current deposits and other items. The table below uses a common definition that adds only current investments and deposits, so it does not directly match IR-reported net cash.

Common definitions · Cash and liquid assets = cash equivalents + current investments and deposits. Borrowings = carrying amount of interest-bearing debt (current + non-current), excluding separate lease liabilities. This differs from total liabilities of 114.167 B$. Restricted cash, non-current securities and non-current deposits are excluded from cash and liquid assets.

05 Investment, capital allocation and cash recovery

A decline in accrual-based CapEx cannot immediately be interpreted as a lower cash investment burden. Consider payments for existing equipment, content payments and future depreciation from AI investment together.

This quarter, cash CapEx/revenue was 10.4% and company-defined FCF/revenue was 30.3%. These ratios should not be used as a simple ranking of companies with different business models and FCF definitions.

Amounts in B$. The table shows all 4 quarters of the prior year and the current year's reported quarters, based on the report's CY-aligned year. Each fiscal quarter is assigned to the calendar quarter with the greatest overlap in its actual reporting period; the original FY/CY label and start and end dates are also shown. Amounts have not been recalculated into actual calendar quarters.

Indented rows are components of, or reference items for, the parent metric. Net cash = cash and liquid assets − borrowings. Depending on company definitions, FCF may include additional adjustments such as lease principal and therefore differ from operating cash flow − cash CapEx. See the cash flow discussion for the detailed definition.

Annual totals and year-to-date totals precede the quarters for each year. Revenue, earnings and cash flow are sums of quarterly values; operating margin equals total operating income divided by total revenue; net cash, cash and borrowings are the final quarter's ending balances. Do not make a simple annual comparison of totals covering different period lengths.

Net cash = cash and liquid assets − borrowings. A negative value indicates net debt. Changes in FCF and net cash are shown as absolute amounts in B$. Quarterly values were not adjusted to match disclosed annual totals.

Comparison bases, calculations and quarterly sources

Calculations and presentation · Amounts in B$. US disclosures in millions of dollars were preserved by dividing by 1,000. Where only cumulative cash flow was available, the preceding cumulative amount in the same fiscal year was subtracted. YoY, QoQ and margins were calculated before display rounding. Earnings growth from negative or 0 bases is shown as a sign change and/or absolute amount.

Opinions and outlook · Management quotations include short original excerpts and translations. Unless identified as earnings call transcripts, quotations come from earnings releases. Interpretations and implications are the author's judgments. No numerically unverified probabilities of achieving targets are assigned.

Currency conversion · Earnings and cash flows use the quarterly average of 7.157017 RMB/USD; balances use 7.1190 RMB/USD as of 2025-09-30. Each historical quarter also uses its own exchange rates. These differ from the company's convenience translations at period-end rates. Company FCF and cash CapEx are distinguished from the common definitions. Original exchange-rate data ↗
