EARNINGS REVIEW
Server growth with margin and cash pressure
Historical earnings report · Management guidance reflects expectations at the time of the release, not subsequent outcomes. The financial comparison uses the site’s normalized dataset, including comparative figures restated in later filings.
Server revenue rose 29% to $4.3 billion, but its margin fell to 8.1% from 11.4%. Intelligent Edge declined 5% to $1.1 billion while Hybrid Cloud grew 10% to $1.4 billion.
Assessment · Weaker profitability and cash conversion qualify the growth headline. Server mix, investment and working-capital funding require separate follow-up.
01 Business drivers
Server revenue rose 29% to $4.3 billion, but its margin fell to 8.1% from 11.4%. Intelligent Edge declined 5% to $1.1 billion while Hybrid Cloud grew 10% to $1.4 billion.
02 Earnings and comparison basis
On the filed comparative basis, revenue was $7.854 billion, operating income $0.433 billion, operating margin 5.51%, and net income $0.627 billion. Non-operating items and tax can separate net earnings from operating profit; the table distinguishes absolute changes from margin-point changes.
Against the previous quarter, the absolute changes were -0.604 B$ in revenue and -0.260 B$ in operating income.
Against the year-earlier quarter, the absolute changes were +1.099 B$ in revenue and -0.092 B$ in operating income.
Against 16% consolidated revenue growth, OCF deteriorated $0.454 billion year on year to negative $0.390 billion. Rapid server expansion did not mean improving margins or cash flow.
03 Cash flow and investment burden
Total quarterly OCF of $-0.390 billion less net cash CapEx of $0.444 billion gives common FCF of $-0.834 billion. Company FCF was $-0.877 billion. Cumulative cash-flow subtraction uses the same fiscal-year start and business perimeter; acquisition consideration is excluded from CapEx.
HPE company FCF adjusts cash exchange-rate effects after net cash CapEx and can differ from common FCF. That adjustment is not operating cash generation, and asset-sale proceeds enter net cash CapEx only once.
04 Liquidity and borrowings
Quarter-end liquid assets were $13.431 billion, interest-bearing borrowings $17.877 billion and net cash $-4.446 billion. A negative net-cash balance denotes net debt. Liquid assets include cash, cash equivalents and verified short-term investments; total accounting liabilities of $45.045 billion are a different measure from borrowings.
05 RPO and forward-looking indicators
HPE’s note describes deferred revenue, so that amount is not displayed as company-wide RPO. An SEC XBRL RPO tag alone does not broaden the disclosed scope. Unavailable does not mean zero, and ARR or a demand pipeline is not a substitute.
06 Guidance at the release date
At the announcement, Guidance was $7.2–7.6 billion of FY25 Q2 revenue, 7–11% annual constant-currency growth and approximately $1.0 billion of company FCF. Juniper remained a proposed acquisition subject to litigation and approvals. Forecasts are separate from realized results.
07 Management remarks in the earnings release
Antonio Neri characterized the results as “HPE achieved our fourth consecutive quarter of year-over-year…”. This brief quotation records management’s assessment in the original release; it does not establish review of conference-call Q&A.
08 CFO assessment
Weaker profitability and cash conversion qualify the growth headline. Server mix, investment and working-capital funding require separate follow-up.

CY denotes the calendar quarter with the greatest overlap with the fiscal period. If the first period has no start date, 89 days before its end is used only for calendar mapping. Financial values are not recalculated into calendar quarters. Incomplete years show totals of included quarters; cash, liabilities, borrowings and net cash use the last period-end balance. QoQ and YoY show absolute changes; margin changes are percentage points. Dashes indicate missing evidence or incomparable periods or definitions. Total liabilities never substitute for borrowings.
Definitions and evidence coverage
A dash means unavailable or undisclosed, not zero. Company-defined FCF may differ from total operating cash flow less common-basis CapEx. Total liabilities are accounting liabilities, not interest-bearing debt.
This report reviews the quarter and comparative figures in official earnings releases and financial filings. Segment descriptions and guidance retain their original announcement-date scope. It does not imply completion of a full conference-call and Q&A review.
