Historical earnings report · Management guidance reflects expectations at the time of the release, not subsequent outcomes. The financial comparison uses the site’s normalized dataset, including comparative figures restated in later filings.

The new Server segment combines Compute and HPC & AI, with certain products transferred to Hybrid Cloud. Server generated $3.4 billion, down 23%, at an 11.4% margin; Intelligent Edge $1.2 billion, up 3%, at 29.4%; and Hybrid Cloud $1.2 billion, down 10%.

Assessment · Use recast comparisons for the new segment structure rather than linking Server directly to historical Compute alone. Better margins must be considered alongside negative cash flow.

01 Business drivers

The new Server segment combines Compute and HPC & AI, with certain products transferred to Hybrid Cloud. Server generated $3.4 billion, down 23%, at an 11.4% margin; Intelligent Edge $1.2 billion, up 3%, at 29.4%; and Hybrid Cloud $1.2 billion, down 10%.

02 Earnings and comparison basis

On the filed comparative basis, revenue was $6.755 billion, operating income $0.525 billion, operating margin 7.77%, and net income $0.387 billion. Non-operating items and tax can separate net earnings from operating profit; the table distinguishes absolute changes from margin-point changes.

Against the previous quarter, the absolute changes were -0.596 B$ in revenue and +0.018 B$ in operating income.

Against the year-earlier quarter, the absolute changes were -1.054 B$ in revenue and -0.066 B$ in operating income.

Management cited a softer networking market and GPU deal timing. Consolidated revenue fell 14%, although GAAP gross margin rose to 36.4%. Company FCF improved to negative $0.482 billion but remained below zero.

03 Cash flow and investment burden

Total quarterly OCF of $0.064 billion less net cash CapEx of $0.560 billion gives common FCF of $-0.496 billion. Company FCF was $-0.482 billion. Cumulative cash-flow subtraction uses the same fiscal-year start and business perimeter; acquisition consideration is excluded from CapEx.

HPE company FCF adjusts cash exchange-rate effects after net cash CapEx and can differ from common FCF. That adjustment is not operating cash generation, and asset-sale proceeds enter net cash CapEx only once.

04 Liquidity and borrowings

Quarter-end liquid assets were $3.758 billion, interest-bearing borrowings $12.797 billion and net cash $-9.039 billion. A negative net-cash balance denotes net debt. Liquid assets include cash, cash equivalents and verified short-term investments; total accounting liabilities of $37.134 billion are a different measure from borrowings.

05 RPO and forward-looking indicators

HPE’s note describes deferred revenue, so that amount is not displayed as company-wide RPO. An SEC XBRL RPO tag alone does not broaden the disclosed scope. Unavailable does not mean zero, and ARR or a demand pipeline is not a substitute.

06 Guidance at the release date

At the announcement, FY24 Q2 guidance was $6.6–7.0 billion of revenue, $0.20–0.25 GAAP EPS and $0.36–0.41 non-GAAP EPS. FY24 company FCF guidance was at least $1.9 billion. Forecasts are separate from realized results.

CY denotes the calendar quarter with the greatest overlap with the fiscal period. If the first period has no start date, 89 days before its end is used only for calendar mapping. Financial values are not recalculated into calendar quarters. Incomplete years show totals of included quarters; cash, liabilities, borrowings and net cash use the last period-end balance. QoQ and YoY show absolute changes; margin changes are percentage points. Dashes indicate missing evidence or incomparable periods or definitions. Total liabilities never substitute for borrowings.

Definitions and evidence coverage

A dash means unavailable or undisclosed, not zero. Company-defined FCF may differ from total operating cash flow less common-basis CapEx. Total liabilities are accounting liabilities, not interest-bearing debt.

This report reviews the quarter and comparative figures in official earnings releases and financial filings. Segment descriptions and guidance retain their original announcement-date scope. It does not imply completion of a full conference-call and Q&A review.
