02 Earnings and comparison basis

On the filed comparative basis, revenue was $7.354 billion, operating income $0.350 billion, operating margin 4.76%, and net income $2.553 billion. Non-operating items and tax can separate net earnings from operating profit; the table distinguishes absolute changes from margin-point changes.

Quarterly OCF of $2.956 billion includes $2.172 billion of after-tax Oracle Itanium litigation proceeds. Company FCF in the quarterly reconciliation excludes those proceeds and is $0.094 billion, versus $2.266 billion for total OCF less net cash CapEx. That difference is neither an FX effect nor recurring operating cash.

03 Cash flow and investment burden

Total quarterly OCF of $2.956 billion less net cash CapEx of $0.690 billion gives common FCF of $2.266 billion. Company FCF was $0.094 billion. Cumulative cash-flow subtraction uses the same fiscal-year start and business perimeter; acquisition consideration is excluded from CapEx.

Company FCF of $0.094 billion excludes $2.172 billion of after-tax Oracle litigation proceeds. The official quarterly bridge reconciles as 2.956−2.172−0.770+0.080=0.094 B$. Common FCF of $2.266 billion retains the total cash-flow perimeter; the definitions remain separate.

04 Liquidity and borrowings

Quarter-end liquid assets were $3.996 billion, interest-bearing borrowings $13.448 billion and net cash $-9.452 billion. A negative net-cash balance denotes net debt. Liquid assets include cash, cash equivalents and verified short-term investments; total accounting liabilities of $37.682 billion are a different measure from borrowings.

05 RPO and forward-looking indicators

HPE’s note describes deferred revenue, so that amount is not displayed as company-wide RPO. An SEC XBRL RPO tag alone does not broaden the disclosed scope. Unavailable does not mean zero, and ARR or a demand pipeline is not a substitute.

06 Guidance at the release date

At the release, FY22 company FCF guidance was $1.8–2.0 billion and GAAP EPS guidance was $1.24–1.38; these were forecasts at that date.

CY denotes the calendar quarter with the greatest overlap with the fiscal period. If the first period has no start date, 89 days before its end is used only for calendar mapping. Financial values are not recalculated into calendar quarters. Incomplete years show totals of included quarters; cash, liabilities, borrowings and net cash use the last period-end balance. QoQ and YoY show absolute changes; margin changes are percentage points. Dashes indicate missing evidence or incomparable periods or definitions. Total liabilities never substitute for borrowings.

Definitions and evidence coverage

A dash means unavailable or undisclosed, not zero. Company-defined FCF may differ from total operating cash flow less common-basis CapEx. Total liabilities are accounting liabilities, not interest-bearing debt.

This report reviews the quarter and comparative figures in official earnings releases and financial filings. Segment descriptions and guidance retain their original announcement-date scope. It does not imply completion of a full conference-call and Q&A review.
